About this event

Come join a lively improvisational Design Jam to introduce participants to design thinking via hands-on activities and to generate some ideas we can actually use in Tidewater.

Our intended audience: We hope to serve any SPHTM stakeholder but particularly graduate students, who need creative, collaborative  skills for the complex world and competitive workplaces we face these days. We invite you to try out this workshop to help us explore how to offer more accessible and relevant social innovation* programming to serve the SPHTM community.

What is the Saturday workshop? Expect a few hands-on activities to introduce you to some ways that we use design thinking as part of a social innovation toolkit, like the ‘bias to action’ design mindset.

The workshop will be organized around a theme we can all engage with… to be revealed!  We will make time to hear your thoughts on how we can bring more design thinking to the SPHTM. We think this event will also  showcase the untapped potential of rooms like TDW 1206  for more engaging learning experiences.

What to bring: No laptops or materials needed! Not a lecture! No homework! We bring the materials. You bring your hands, hearts, and lived experiences.

Will there be food? Yes, expect light refreshments!

*About SILL: This is the third public activity of the Social Innovation learning Lab (SILL), a spring project of the SPHTM. So far we have hosted two panels showcasing Alum in Social Innovation who are following different career pathways.  Learn more about the SILL here: https://tulanesill.wordpress.com/

*Social innovation is an approach to problem – solving that brings together various system-thinking approaches and design-thinking mindsets and methods to address complex societal challenges. It’s a great complement to MPH and PHD training that offers resume-building tools.
