LeShawn “Lee” Simplis Barnes is a California native who joined the Tulane community in September of 2021 and is the Director of Admissions for the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine ( SPHTM). In her role, Lee is passionate about helping prospective and current students find their place at SPHTM. She enjoys assisting students in learning more about SPHTM and honing in on their passions and believes every student has a purpose. Before joining Tulane, Lee was a program manager for a TRIO program at a community college in southern California, in which she helped students enroll in college and achieve their academic dreams.
Born in Belize, Lee immigrated to the United States as a small child. She worked for over a decade for a California public health organization before making the career switch to higher education. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling the world, spending time with her family, and reading. Lee enjoys connecting with Tulane’s undergraduate students and is happy to be a part of the TYL team.
