Tulio Maximo, Ph.D.

Tulio Maximo is a Professor of Practice and Associate Director of Design Thinking for Social Impact. Dr. Maximo teaches and practices human-centered design with a focus on inclusive design, ergonomics, and social innovation. He brings over a decade of experience designing educational tools, mobility solutions, and learning experiences that center empathy and improve quality of life for marginalized communities. At the Taylor Center, Maximo leads public workshops, practitioner networks, and training opportunities that foster creative leadership and promote design thinking as a force for social good.

In previous roles, Dr. Maximo served as a design educator at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design, where he launched “Design Meets Disabilities,” a course focused on inclusive design and assistive technology. He built cross-sector partnerships with organizations such as the Salvation Army, the Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation, Havaianas APAC, and the Hong Kong Society for the Blind. He also created the Empathy Library, a pedagogical resource for exploring diverse human conditions from pregnancy to aging in design education.

Dr. Maximo holds an MS in Ergonomics and a PhD in Philosophy, both from Loughborough University. He serves on the board of directors of the Creative Educators International Network and co-founded the Community of Practice for Design Thinking in Higher Education. He is a member of the Hong Kong Teaching Excellence Alliance and an academic journal reviewer for CoDesign, Ergonomics, Health Expectations, and Disability and Rehabilitation: Assistive Technology.
