Taylor appoints new cohort of Taylor Faculty Fellows
The Phyllis M. Taylor Center for Social Innovation and Design Thinking is pleased to announce Mallory Monaco Caterine, Dee Fuchs, Vivian Norris, and Dauphne Sloan as 2018 Taylor Faculty Fellows.
In 2013, Mallory Monaco Caterine joined the Department of Classical Studies at Tulane University as a Professor of Practice. Broadly interested in Greek cultural history, her research has focused on leadership in antiquity, especially non-traditional leaders such as tyrants and women. As a Taylor Faculty Fellow, Dr. Caterine will engage with Taylor’s Professors in Social Entrepreneurship and other Taylor Change Team members about her interests in leadership development and humanities outreach in New Orleans and beyond. Dr. Caterine is eager to work with Taylor to develop new projects that will bring the insights of the past and the approaches of humanistic study to a broad audience of current and future leaders in business, politics, government, and non-profit sectors. Dr. Caterine earned her M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University, writing a dissertation on Plutarch’s biographies of Hellenistic statesmen as leadership models for elite Greeks living under the Roman Empire.
Dee Fuchs, MBA, joined the A.B. Freeman School of Business in June of 2012 after a successful career as a healthcare marketing executive and nonprofit founder/CEO. Fuchs is a lecturer, teaching Financial and Management Communication to undergraduate and graduate students, and serves as the writing editor for the Burkenroad Reports. As Taylor’s newest Faculty Fellow, Fuchs plans to collaborate with students and staff to explore the creation of a Social Change Exchange, a one-stop barter and financial donation platform to match nonprofit organizations with private donor resources. Fuchs holds a Master of Business Administration from Tulane University and a Bachelor of Applied Science from Loyola University. She is a past board member of the Algiers Charter Schools Association, Travelers Aid, and STRIVE.
Dr. Vivian Norris is a filmmaker, journalist and academic, teaching Global Communications and Policy at Tulane University in New Orleans. Dr. Norris has worked closely alongside Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank and leading authority on social business, developing a feature film project and an alternative educational distribution paths for films with social messages. Norris’s post-doctoral research includes the future of Digital Distribution, and issues related to Biotechnology and the Oil Industry, as well as the Epidemic of Narcissism and its Effects on the Financial Industry, Individuals and Politics and the role of Trust and Abuse of Power in Media. Dr. Norris holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature with a Film focus and an M.A. in Scandinavian Studies from the University of Washington in Seattle, with a dissertation on globalization and media.
Dauphine Sloan is Senior Professor of Practice in International Development Studies and Director of the Payson Graduate Program in Global Development at Tulane University Law School.At Tulane, Dr. Sloan teaches various core courses including Introduction to Development, International Political and Economic Relations, and Development Theories and Strategies since 1945. She also teaches a series of electives such as Migrants, Refugees and Development, Leadership and Management for Development, and Development in the Francophone World. Dr. Sloan received her Doctorate in Sociology and her Masters in Applied Modern Languages (English/Russian) from the University of Paris V, as well as a post-graduate degree in Soviet and East European Studies from the Institut d’études politiques de Paris (Sciences Po Paris).
