  • The Taylor Center is seeking a responsible, open-minded, motivated, and dynamic Communications Student Fellow in Digital Content who is excited to join a culture of collaborative social innovation and design thinking at Tulane and in New Orleans.
  • This is a Spring 2021 paid position to support the Taylor Center’s communication and marketing projects.
  • Communications Student Fellows create & distribute content to Taylor’s website, social media channels, email newsletter, print designs, videos, and more. Taylor Center Student Fellows are ambassadors of the Taylor Center who create, implement, and communicate Taylor programs through outreach materials.
  • Applicants must be interested in working towards positive social change through the fields of social innovation, design thinking, social entrepreneurship, research & scholarship, or community organizing.
  • Remuneration is $12/hr. (pro-rated stipend)
Communications Student Fellow: Job Requirements
  • Work 10 hours per week during the Spring 2021 term.
  • This is a remote position with opportunities for in-person photo shoots depending on student interest.
  • Work occasional evening and weekend hours, as required, to assist in documenting programming.
Communications Student Fellow: Eligibility
  • Must be enrolled as a student at Tulane in Spring 2021. This role is open to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
  • Must be in good academic standing for the term prior to selection and during entire period of employment.
  • Must maintain at least a cumulative GPA of 3.0
Primary Job Duties: Communications Student Fellow – Digital Content
  • 40%: Social Media Management: Maintain a content calendar to regularly post content submitted by team members and regularly engage with followers on the Taylor Center’s social media accounts.
  • 25%: Digital content management: Update, format, and publish web content using WordPress and Eventbrite.. Assist in writing the Taylor Center newsletter and building it in Active Campaign. (Previous experience using these tools not required, only a willingness to learn.)
  • 15%: Project Management: Coordinate multi-step projects with stakeholders to ensure that deadlines are met and approvals are completed.
  • 10%: Copywriting and copyediting: Condensing and editing news items and transcripts of Taylor events. Ensure that marketing materials align with center brand guidelines.
  • 10%: Other duties as required. Duties will evolve over the year the possibility of increasing responsibility and opportunity for independent projects.
Required Knowledge/Skills: Communications Student Fellow – Digital Content
  • Excellent proofreading and editing skills.
  • Excellent time-management skills: must be punctual, timely, and deadline-oriented
  • Extremely strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate communications and timelines for multi-step projects on a team.
  • Strong writing skills as demonstrated by grades in past coursework.
  • Ability to follow and enforce brand guidelines.
  • Customer service skills to be used in email and digital platforms.
  • Working knowledge of standard computer programs, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Box.
  • Experience in or willingness to learn digital marketing tools such as WordPress, Active Campaign, Google Analytics, Eventbrite, social media management tools, & more.
  • Ability to work remotely.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills
  • Coursework in communications, marketing, graphic design, or photography.
  • Proficiency in Canva or Adobe Creative Suite software products.
  • Working knowledge of departments and organizations relevant to the Taylor Center.
  • Experience in marketing or communications for a business, nonprofit, community or student organization. (can be as an intern, volunteer, or employee)

  • CM Fellows report to Taylor’s Communications and Marketing Specialist, Flora Petterson.
