Myron Shaffer serves undergraduate students as the Assistant Director of Exploratory Advising in Mussafer Hall. Shaffer helps students identify their interests, make decisions, set goals, and plan for academic and personal success. The roles of academic and career advising along with instructing design thinking allow Shaffer to assist students with the process of taking actions through prototyping rather than feeling stuck in inaction. Shaffer has also instructed SISE 4820 Taylor Your Life since Fall 2017.

Before joining Tulane in 2013, Shaffer’s life design paths have taken him to teaching English in Mexico, developing an after school program for a private K-8 school, instructing composition courses to international students, and traveling to 35 states and 15 countries.

Shaffer incorporates design thinking exercises and activities into trainings and meetings. These human-centered design activities have led to an increase in the number of ideas generated and has provided introverted colleagues a safe space to engage more directly.

Shaffer received his Master of Arts degree in Linguistics from San Diego State University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with minors in Africana Studies and Spanish from the University of Arizona.
