Kaitlyn Root is a graduate student in Tulane’s Department of History. Root is committed to equitable changemaking, with a particular interest in policy reform and community building. She currently volunteers at the LGBT+ Archives Project of Louisiana as a grant writer with the goal of expanding their organizational reach. She also designed onboarding documentation, facilitation guides, and visitation transcript templates for the Louisiana Detention Watch Coalition.

Originally from Fort Thomas, Kentucky, Root chose Tulane for its dedication to community service and engagement. She is thrilled to join the Taylor Center as a Life Design graduate assistant, as she enjoys helping others professionally utilize their passions. On-campus, she works as a graduate assistant at both the Taylor Center and the Center for Public Service. Off-campus, she enjoys exploring New Orleans, doing yoga, and listening to records.
