About this Event

In this eight-week course, we will introduce (and record) a new 20-minute practice each week for cultivating a core mindset of design. Participants will then repeat the practice daily until the following session.

Both Mecquel and Rafe have been approached by individuals and organizations seeking to develop their creativity, intuitiveness, entrepreneurialism, and other skillsets of designers. Unfortunately, the request is usually for isolated workshops or professional development opportunities, despite an emerging body of research that suggests that daily habits are more effective for personal and cultural growth.

In this eight-week course, we will cultivate the mindsets that are intrinsic to design through 20-minute daily practices. We will explore one mindset each week and how it can be applied to enhance effectiveness in any discipline. Such mindsets include creativity, intuitiveness, entrepreneurialism, empathy, and more.

The class will meet on Zoom Tuesdays at 10am ET/9am CT; these sessions will be recorded and distributed so that participants can then repeat the practice daily until the following Tuesday session. Participants can do the practices individually or create peer-pods. In addition to fostering meaningful personal growth, we expect to convene a joyful and supportive online community that embodies the mindsets we seek to cultivate.

What participants should expect:

Expect to move, sit, draw, breathe, write, laugh, and activate every sense. We will meet (synchronously) on Tuesday mornings (10am ET/9am CT) to introduce the new practice. After the practice, we’ll have a discussion about the practice and participants’ experience. Everyone should join the discussion as much or as little as they feel comfortable doing so. Because the sessions are recorded, participants can miss sessions as needed; however, we are hoping to create a community within the course, so we expect everyone will join most Tuesdays. We will be incorporating mindfulness and design practices, but the exercises will be appropriate for every level of experience.

As an additional feature, we will offer weekly small group discussions about the practice for those who would like to converse.

**As an additional resource, we will offer weekly small group discussions about the practice for those who would like to share in a like minded design community.
