Liberty’s Kitchen provides pathways for New Orleans youth to create and achieve their vision of success through workforce training, leadership development, and support of healthy lifestyles. Our vision is a community where every young person has a chance to succeed. Our cornerstone Youth Development Program is a 4-month culinary-based career preparation program that provides employability and life skills training to young people who are disconnected from work and school. Our School Nutrition Program provides healthy, made-from-scratch meals to local schoolchildren, promoting youth wellness and achievement. Finally, our Youth Leadership Program provides an additional 8 months of support and programming to YDP graduates focused on civic engagement, career advancement, and more. As a social enterprise, we support our programming through our 5 teaching-focused business lines. To date, Liberty’s Kitchen has served over 600 young people and served over a million and a half freshly prepared, healthy meals to local charter schools and daycares.
Liberty’s Kitchen interns are given a unique opportunity to work in a fun and diverse team devoted to bettering the lives of New Orleans youth. Interns are supervised but are also given the freedom to use their own individual skill sets to improve and expand the reach of Liberty’s Kitchen in the community.
We offer an array of internship positions ranging from Development (fundraising & marketing) to Youth Success (supporting our core youth programs) to our School Nutrition Program.
Past interns have crafted blog and social media content, coordinated our volunteer system, worked on nutrition education initiatives, coached program participants on their career development journeys, and more. Internships are unpaid, but we can work with you to provide course credit and offer free daily meals.
We are looking for highly motivated self-starters who want to work in a small yet bustling nonprofit environment and who have a passion for helping others. Strong oral and written communication skills are a must. Fluency in social media, previous experience working with youth, or any other special skills are a plus.
If you are interested in applying for a fall internship, please send a PDF of your resume and a short statement addressing your interest and your availability (hours/week, total hours required) to firstname.lastname@example.org.
