FAST 48 XI

$60 – $125
03.22.2019 | 6:00 pm - 03.24.2019 | 6:30 pm

Sign up for Fast 48 to learn the basics of human-centered design (HCD) for social impact. The Fast 48 is an immersive weekend bootcamp that teaches HCD through short cycles of individual and group practice, including direct work in the community. The FAST 48 serves graduate students at Tulane, as well as staff, faculty, educators, and community organizations interested in learning design thinking (DT) for their practice, research, or organizational programs. We welcome artists, creative types, and local social entrepreneurs! We are working with PlayBuild New Orleans, a central-city based nonprofit promoting design education for  ages 4-12 years, through imaginative play and finding new uses for under-utilized urban spaces.

In a fast-paced program spanning 48 hours, from 6 PM on Friday to 6 PM on Sunday, you will

  • Learn the key mindsets of human-centered design or design thinking.
  • Practice some basic methods for immersion, user-centered synthesis, ideation, etc.
  • Appreciate how design-thinking fits into your personal  “social innovation toolkit”.
  • Reflect on how to take it back to your program and workplace.
  • Learn how DT is helping generate social innovations for health, poverty, energy, and environmental challenges around the world.
  • Join a network of people with common interests in design thinking for social innovation.
  • Enrich your resume! Practice skills that get you recognized by employers looking for creative, entrepreneurial, solutions-seeking changemakers.
