Congratulations to SISE Director Dr. Anna Monhartova for her recognition in social entrepreneurship through her work with A’s and Aces. The USTA Foundation, the national charitable organization of the United States Tennis Association, recently released the final rankings for the 2014-15 edition of the USTA’s NJTL National Student Athlete Competition. All of the students representing New Orleans are A’s & Aces participants!
Twelve New Orleanians finished the yearlong competition ranked in the top 10 of the competition’s age and gender divisions, including two ranked No. 1 in the nation. Isaiah Porea finished first in the Boys Elementary School division, and Christopher Brown Jr. is ranked No. 1 in the Boys Middle School division. Both are students at Edward Hynes Charter School.
Of the 24 New Orleans student athletes ranked in the top 25 of their divisions, representing a total of 15 different schools, all were A’s & Aces/ NORDC Literacy & Tennis Summer Camp participants. The oldest of the New Orleans participants are those who began attending A’s & Aces as young elementary school students in 2008 when the nonprofit organization was founded.

A’s & Aces provides assistance to New Orleans public school children and other populations who have historically lacked access to quality educational support and tennis. Our nonprofit organization operates through the support of volunteers, partners, donors and philanthropic foundations, and uses social entrepreneurship to promote diversity and create sustainable, systematic social change.
